I want to do something a little different with the Pick of the Week this week. Every week, we try to direct you to something you may have missed and might enjoy. I’m betting we’re not the only ones, though. With so much out there to see, do, and experience, it’s absolutely impossible to catch it all.
It is not an exaggeration to state that nearly every day someone tells me about a game, movie, show, book, band, or comic that I should really check out. I have an entire stack of Playstation 3 games that a friend loaned me sitting untouched by the console. Meanwhile, I have actually caught up on Game of Thrones, and I’m finally watching Veronica Mars, which was recommended to me years ago.
Mostly, though, I just feel like I’m falling more and more behind. So my pick of the week for everyone, including myself, is to stop worrying about it. Stop rushing from thing to thing to thing and take a bit of time for some self-care. In the immortal words of Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks:
I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.
My present to myself is that I’m going to stop worrying about the large stack of things I have to watch and read and instead spend some time relaxing in my own head. Your idea of self-care may be different. Carve out an hour for a walk. Take a nap. Or maybe a long bath.
Do something nice for yourself. You probably need it.
